GEOstrip Troubleshooting

GEOstrip Security Dongle Not recognized

Dongle is not recognizes after GEOstrip installation.

Follow these steps:

  1. Remove dongle & go to "Start" > "All Programs" > GEOstrip SystemsTM Folder & click on "USB Dongle Installer"
  2. KEYLOK Security Key Installation Window opens
  3. Check off the "Uninstall" box & click "Begin Install"
  4. Click on "Close" button
  5. Go to "Start" > "All Programs" > GEOstrip Systems Folder & click on "USB Dongle Installer"
  6. KEYLOK Security Key Installation Window opens
  7. Check off "USB Dongle" warning box appears saying "Please do NOT attach USB Dongle until install is complete" > click "OK" & click "Begin Install"
  8. Click on "Close" button
  9. Insert dongle into USB port
  10. Go to your desktop & right click on "My Computer" > click on "Properties" > click on "Hardware Tab" > click on "Device Manager"
  11. Find "Other devices" & right click on "USB Device" & click on "Update Driver"
  12. Click on "Install the software automatically(Recommended) click "Next"
  13. Then when widows found driver click on "Finished"

ERROR CODE: 1, Message. A valid dongle was not detected.

The program is operating in viewer mode with limited capabilities. If you inserted a dongle in the USB Port, please contact GRS for technical assistance. ERROR CODE:1

Follow these steps:

  1. Click "OK"
  2. Exit GEOstrip go to "File" click on "Exit" or click on the red "X" on the top right hand corner.
  3. Remove USB dongle wait 5 seconds & the reinsert dongle into USB port.
  4. Try opening GEOstrip again.

No CODE ERROR Message.

A valid dongle was not detected. The program is operating in viewer mode with limited capabilities. If you inserted a dongle in the USB Port, please contact GRS for technical assistance.

  2. Click on "Help"( on the top right hand corner of GEOstrip) > "Check for Upgrades & Verify License" > "Over the Internet" (MUST have internet connection for this to work)
  3. Update License window opens
  4. Click on "Process" when the 4 steps are all checked of automatically, click on the red "X" on the top right hand corner to exit.
  5. Click on "Help"( on the top right hand corner of GEOstrip) > "License Info"
  6. License Info window opens and should say
  7. Current Program Mode: Full use mode
  8. Dongle serial Number: Your USB Dongle #
  9. Number of days left in license: ##
  10. If not contact GRS for assistance

My dongle has expired what do I do?

If you have not purchased GEOstrip call GRS for assistance

If you have purchased GEOstrip follow the next steps:

  1. Click on "Help"( on the top right hand corner of GEOstrip) > "Check for Upgrades & Verify License" > "Over the Internet" (MUST have internet connection for this to work)
  2. Update License window opens
  3. Click on "Process" when the 4 steps are all checked of automatically, click on the red "X" on the top right hand corner to exit.
  4. Click on "Help"( on the top right hand corner of GEOstrip) > "License Info"
  5. License Info window opens and should say
  6. Current Program Mode: Full use mode
  7. Dongle serial Number: Your USB Dongle #
  8. Number of days left in license: ##
  9. If not contact GRS for assistance

GEOstrip Issues on Company Corporate Computers.

Please see your IT Department for accepting Installations and files from GEOstrip.

If you have had GEOstrip running on your corporate computer and now it is gone or not opening check with your IT department. Periodically IT departments will scan employee computers and remove programs that they feel are not authorized.

Cannot view Lithology in HZ Log

  1. Make sure the TVD Depths ranges from the top to bottom of the Wellbore Cross Section ~ 30 to 50 feet or meters or less.
  2. To make these changes right click in the WBCS & select "Create TVD Range" & select a smaller depth range.

GEOstrip Dialogue blocks are cutoff in Windows 7

Windows 7 has a 'large fonts' / 'small fonts' option for the display.

  1. 1. If you right-click on the desktop and select properties, there is a tab that sets the display resolution and 'font size'.
  2. 2. Select Font size to small or Normal.

If this does not correct your issue you may need to check with your computer manufacturer and see if there is another Display driver option.

GEOstrip opens in a window off screen when no second monitor connected

Follow these steps:

  1. Shut down GEOstrip
  2. Run RegEdit
  3. open folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  4. open folder Software
  5. open folder GRS
  6. open folder GEOstrip
  7. there will be a number of subfolders there, depending on what versions you have run on that PC. Open the folder that corresponds to the current version.
  8. You should see a folder called 'Form Info' delete that folder.

Try reopening GEOstrip. It should open in your main display.

GEOstrip Error 11010 table or backup file 'AbbrevTemplate' does not exist error.

Simply Rebooting your machine should solve this issue.
